Google’s SEO Change: How a penguin changed the way your website ranks

Google has been busy this year shaking up the SEO world and the methods used to get your websites ranked highly in the search engines.  We’re on top of it.  Check out this Google Algorithm Calendar to see just how many changes they made to their search algorithm this year!  In particular, Google’s Penguin update (or series of updates in actuality) has very specific implications for what every SEO company has to keep in mind and stay on top of.

Free whitepaper for you below with an incredible overview of SEO in general and the implications Penguin has had for website owners.

In summary, the focus of your SEO should be on user experience and engagement now more than ever.  Check out some of the most easily noted things you’ll want to keep in mind going forward.

Link Quality – Get good quality links to your website with the help of quality content, interviews, and good reviews.  Adding useful content to your website is one of the best inbound linking strategies you can create.  Link quantity is now less important than ever relative to link quality.

Anchor Text – Get links to your website and pages with different anchor text as opposed to using the same for all your inbound links.

Keyword Density – It should be close to 1.5% and target long tail keywords as they rank more easily.

Keyword Stuffing – This become a big no-no a long time ago.  Stop it right now.  It’s even worse of an idea after the Penguin release.  Don’t stuff your website with too many or duplicate keywords.  You will be penalized.

Content – Create content for users, not for search engines.  By doing so, you’ll improve user engagement and that will help your search engine optimization.

SEO Automation – Avoid using a company that uses automated techniques for optimizing your website for search engines.  Automated queries to Google, automated link building, etc. will all be harmful to your website.

Be Social – Google gives high importance to social media and also gives you preference if you use Google’s services such as Google plus, Google places, etc.
